Imagine being in a building approximately the size of an NBA basketball court lined in gold, decorated with gold chains and pomegranates, and adorned with gems.
Imagine all the work required to build the Temple, hammering the gold into thin sheets that could be pounded into place over the elaborate carvings of palm trees and chains and over the forms of cherubim that spanned the width of the building.
Imagine spending a lifetime creating something so magnificent for the honor and glory of God!
But that is what each of us are called to do when we become followers of Christ. Our tribute to God is not likely to be a temple overlaid with gold, but our lives are to be poured out in the construction of a magnificent monument to His power and glory.
Perhaps your monument is a family raised with love and faith, a family that may influence generations to come for the gospel. Or maybe your life’s work is serving in obscurity in your community or church - we know very few of the thousands of individuals who spent their life working on the Temple, but God knows each one by name. Maybe your calling is to give generously of the wealth God has blessed you with so that the work may continue.
Each of us has a role in the building of God’s kingdom for the display of His Glory—even more than a temple overlaid with gold. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
