It shouldn't come as a surprise that when we make a decision to restructure our tasks in order to allow time to rest, it seems as if our tasks multiply faster than rabbits! It's been a long and busy day and poor planning on my part has led to me having my quiet time as the last thing today rather than first thing.
What stands out in this passage to me today is this: "And all the people answered with one voice, 'Everything the Lord has said we will do.'”
I don't know about you, but I know that I far too often cry out with a loud voice, "I will do it!" Then I struggle to follow through. I might keep it up for a little while, but eventually other priorities push their way in and next thing I know, I've laid aside one good thing for another. Or sometimes, if I'm really honest, laid aside one good thing for something of very little worth.
This week, my prayer is that I will pray first about opportunities before I commit. That I will remember the wise, wise words of our pastor, JD Greear, "Not everything from heaven has your name on it, but something does." That I will look for the things that God is calling me to rather than settling for the things that sound fun, seem like a good idea, or that I feel as if I "ought" to be doing.
A good friend reminded me today of the saying, "Good mornings start the night before." So Good Night!
