Four times in one chapter with only eighteen verses, the command is given to “be strong and courageous!” That encouragement is backed up by a quick reminder that God is with them, that He will fight for them, and that He is the one driving out their enemies and giving them this land.
Although these words were for the Israelites, they hold true for us today as we follow Jesus into battle on a daily basis. We face an enemy who is not flesh and blood. He’s taken captives and God has called us to proclaim freedom for those captives. But, like the Israelites, we are not fighting alone. The Lord will never leave us nor forsake us.
Our strength and our courage come from knowing God is with us and fighting for us. We don’t get to sit on the sidelines, but neither are we responsible for the results. God is going before us and clearing a path, leveling any obstacle that would deny the victory, but maintaining those hurdles that will strengthen us.
As you start this new week, and a new month, what battle has God called you to enter? What situation are you up against that is so much bigger than you, but so much smaller than the God we serve? Leave a comment below and I will be praying with you and for you to “be strong and very courageous” and to know that God’s got this.
